One of the illustrious captain in IPL history, Mahendra Singh Dhoni might well be playing his last season this year for his franchise Chennai Super Kings. Since 2008, the 2 time world cup winning captain has been the man for CSK. He has won them 3 trophies and has missed the playoffs only once in 2020.
Now with MS Dhoni’s time coming to an end, CSK need to groom a captain who can carry forward the legacy of CSK after MS Dhoni. It is next to impossible to find a captain of MS Dhoni’s calibre who is a master of handling the resources and bringing the best out of a player even if that player’s skillset is limited.
One of the most improved batters in recent times across formats, Ravindra Jadeja has been associated with CSK for 10 years now. He played for Gujarat Lions in the 2 years when CSK were banned from playing IPL. He along with Suresh Raina and MS Dhoni have become the face of CSK over the years.
Ravindra Jadeja is 32 years old and can play cricket for another 5 years atleast, such is his fitness. With MS Dhoni sooner or later going to hang up his boots, Ravindra Jadeja expressed his aspirations to captain CSK in the future via a tweet which read, “who would be your pick to captaining CSK after MS Dhoni,”.
The Indian all rounder replied with “8” which is his jersey number and confirmed that he would like to captain CSK in future but also went on to delete the tweet later on.
Ravindra Jadeja was magnificent with both bat and ball in the first leg of IPL that happened in India earlier this year. He picked 6 wickets in 7 games at an economy rate of 6.70 and has 131 runs with the bat at an impressive strike rate of 161. CSK would need him to continue his form in the 2nd leg in UAE.
