1. Royal Challengers Bangalore 49 vs Kolkata Knight Riders (IPL 2017)

Since its inception in 2008, the IPL has witnessed some bizarre cricket matches including the debacle between Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the Eden Gardens in 2017. After losing the toss and being asked to bat first, KKR opener Sunil Narine got his team off to an incredible start as the left-hander smashed 34 runs off 17 balls. However, the RCB spin bowling duo of Yuzvendra Chahal and Pawan Negi then bowled impressively well to share five wickets between them and restricted the hosts to a below-par score.

From being comfortably placed at 65 for 1 in 5.3 overs, KKR were surprisingly bowled out for 131 runs. However, KKR’s pace battery of Nathan Coulter-Nile, Umesh Yadav, Chris Woakes and Colin de Grandhomme put up an extraordinary show with the ball to rattle RCB for a paltry total of 49 runs in just 9.4 overs. The trio of Coulter-Nile, Woakes and Grandhomme finished with three wickets each while Yadav picked up one wicket whereas none of the RCB batsmen managed a double-digit score. In an interesting fact, RCB holds the record for the highest ever score in IPL along with the lowest ever score as well.

2. Rajasthan Royals 58 vs Royal Challengers Bangalore (IPL 2009)

After a spectacular performance where the Rajasthan Royals (RR) won the inaugural season of the IPL in 2008, the franchise started the 2009 edition with a pretty disappointing show. On the opening day of IPL 2009, the defending champions RR were facing RCB who finished seventh in 2008. While batting first, RCB were only able to post a total of 133 for 8 in their 20 overs courtesy Rahul Dravid’s brilliant innings of 66 runs off 48 balls. Apart from Dravid and Kevin Pietersen, no other RCB batters registered double digit scores.

However, in a shocking reply, Rajasthan Royals bundled out for a total of only 58 runs as the 2008 winners registered the then lowest ever total in the IPL. RCB leg-spinner Anil Kumble recorded an outstanding spell of 5 for 5 in his 3.1 overs while the duo Praveen Kumar and Jesse Ryder finished with two wickets each.

3. Delhi Daredevils 66 vs Mumbai Indians (IPL 2017)

The 2017 season of the IPL was surely one of the most disastrous tournaments for the Delhi Daredevils. The Delhi-based franchise recorded two of their lowest totals in the history of the IPL. During IPL 2017, in a game against Mumbai Indians, Lendl Simmons smashed an excellent innings of 66 runs off 43 balls while Kieron Pollard also played a power-packed knock of 63 runs off 35 balls to help their team post a big total of 212 for 3 in their 20 overs.

While chasing a massive total, Delhi lost key early wickets at the top and never really recovered in the chase. Delhi Daredevils were bowled out for 66 runs after the MI spin duo of Harbhajan Singh and Karn Sharma bowled amazingly well to pick up three wickets each.

4. Delhi Daredevils 67 vs Kings XI Punjab (IPL 2017)

Just after a week from getting bowled out for their lowest ever total in the IPL history, the Delhi Daredevils witnessed yet another horrendous outing with the bat. After winning the toss, Kings XI Punjab skipper Glenn Maxwell asked Delhi to bat first. Punjab’s new ball bowler Sandeep Sharma bowled a sensational opening spell where he took four crucial wickets to jolt the Delhi side.

Delhi Daredevils were bowled out for a below-par score of 67 runs. During the chase, Punjab’s opening pair of Martin Guptill and Hashim Amla made matters worse for Delhi as they conceded a massive 10-wicket defeat. In a gap of two weeks, the Delhi-based team recorded two of their lowest totals in the history of the IPL.

5. Kolkata Knight Riders 67 vs Mumbai Indians (IPL 2008)

After Brendon McCullum’s memorable knock of 158 runs off 73 balls for KKR in the opening game of the inaugural season of the IPL, KKR did not have the best of seasons in the cash-rich league. The match against Mumbai Indians proved to be an absolute disaster for the Kolkata Knight Riders.

After losing the toss and being asked to bat first, KKR never really found their mojo throughout the innings and were bowled out for just 67 runs which was the lowest total that season. MI bowlers Shaun Pollock and Dwayne Bravo picked three and two wickets respectively to rattle the KKR batting. In reply, Mumbai chased down the total in just 5.3 overs as Sanath Jayasuriya slammed a quick-fire innings of 48 runs off 17 balls.
