Every year, the IPL auction is a much-anticipated event, where the franchises bid for the best players in the world. The IPL 2023 auction was historic in every sense of the word, as it saw three of the highest bids of all time.

The top three highest bids of all time all came about in the IPL 2023 auction. The Punjab Kings made the biggest splash by securing the services of Sam Curran for an astronomical INR 18.25 crore, making him the highest-paid player in the history of the IPL auction. The all-rounder had previously played for the Chennai Super Kings, but the Kings made sure that he would be playing for them in the 2023 season. Here’s the list of most expensive player in IPL 2023

Cameron Green, the tall pace bowling all-rounder, was the second-highest paid player in the history of the IPL auction when he was sold to the Mumbai Indians for a whooping 17.50 crore. The franchise had to fight off stiff competition from other franchises to secure Green’s services, but they eventually managed to get their man.

KL Rahul, the wicket-keeper batsman, was chosen by the Lucknow Super Giants for an astounding INR 17 crore, making him the most expensive player in the Indian Premier League 2022 player retentions. Rahul had previously played for Punjab Kings for four seasons and had collected 590+ runs, making him a very sought-after option before the super auction.

Ben Stokes, the England all-rounder, is not unfamiliar with high bids. He has already secured bids upwards of 10 crore in previous IPL auctions. The Chennai Super Kings broke the bank for him this year when they paid the huge sum of 16.25 crore for his services. Stokes had previously played for Rajasthan Royals in the IPL.

Nicholas Pooran, the wicket-keeper batsman from Trinidad, is a veteran in the shortest format of the game. He possesses the rare ability of hitting spin in the middle overs, which makes him a valuable asset to any team. Therefore, it came as no surprise when the Lucknow Super Giants spent 16 crore for his services. Pooran had previously played for Punjab Kings in the IPL.

Rohit Sharma had led Mumbai Indians to five IPL championships prior to the retentions, thus it was obvious that he would shortly receive a substantial pay hike, which he rightly deserved. For the 2022 season, the Mumbai Indians boosted his salary from INR 15 crore to INR 16 crore. Sharma is one of the most successful captains in the IPL and has been an integral part of the Mumbai Indians team since joining them in 2011.

Rishabh Pant was appointed as the captain of the Delhi Capitals in the 2021 season, and he led the team to the final, where they lost to the Chennai Super Kings. After seeing his leadership skills and his ability as a batsman, the franchise decided to spend a sizable sum of money on him in the hopes that he could lead them to success in the future. When he was re-signed for the 2022 competition, he was asked to captain the team for an outstanding INR 16 crore.
