Hardik Pandya IPL Career and Performance

Hardik Pandya is a popular Indian cricketer who plays for the national side in all formats of the game. He was born on 11 October 1993 in Surat, Gujarat. He is an all-rounder who bats right-handed and bowls right-arm medium fast. His brother Krunal Pandya is also an Indian international cricketer. Hardik wears his heart on his sleeve and is very confident of his abilities. The flamboyant player is known for his big-hitting skills and is fondly called Kung Fu Pandya.

Hardik plays Ranji cricket for Baroda. He played a key role in Baroda winning the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy in the 2013–14 season. Due to a dearth of fast bowling all-rounders in the country, he was fast-tracked into the national setup in no time. He made his T20I debut in January 2016 versus Australia. His One Day International debut for India came against New Zealand on 16 October 2016 at Dharamshala. Hardik adds a lot of balance to the side and earned his Test cap in July 2017 versus Sri Lanka.

Hardik Pandya in IPL Career and Performance

Like many youngsters before him, Hardik announced himself to the world in the Indian Premier League. He performed admirably in several pressure situations. The Indian audience went as far as likening him to former World Cup winning captain Kapil Dev. His bowling has come a long way, and he just needs a little composure with the bat.

Hardik has been with the Mumbai Indians ever since his debut in 2015. He first caught attention when he hit a six off just the second ball on his debut versus RCB. Later on, in the season, he guided Mumbai to victory with a quick-fire eight ball 21 against CSK, with his side needing 30 runs from two overs. He had a fairly average season in 2016.

In the next couple of years, Hardik grew in stature and scored over 250 runs at an impressive strike rate. His bowling developed leaps and bounds, and he picked up 18 wickets in the 2018 season. 2019 was his breakthrough year as he amassed 402 runs and also picked up 14 wickets. He played as a proper batsman in the side in 2020 as he could not bowl owing to a back injury.

The Mumbai Indians purchased Hardik in 2015. They have never let go of him since then. He has performed well for the side and has won the game on a number of occasions. Pandya bats as a floater for MI and is promoted up the order whenever his side needs impetus to the innings. Along with Suryakumar Yadav and Kieron Pollard, he is part of a fearsome Mumbai Indians’ middle order.
