Jasprit’s T20 debut came against Maharashtra in the 2012-13 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, where his outstanding performance helped Gujarat clinch the title, earning him the Man of the Match award. After an impressive debut season in the Indian T20 League with Mumbai, the franchise retained him for the subsequent year at an astounding price of 1.2 crores.

Bumrah’s unique bowling action made him a sensation in T20 cricket, catching the eye of the Indian selectors. His impeccable skills, control, and accuracy earned him a spot on the flight to Australia for the T20I series in 2016. Due to an injury to Mohammed Shami, Bumrah got the opportunity to make his ODI debut in Sydney before featuring in the T20Is. He seized the chance with an impressive outing, including a six-wicket haul in a Kangaroo whitewash. Soon after, his excellent performances during the Australian tour propelled him to become the number two ranked T20I bowler in the world. Subsequently, he cemented his place in the team by playing crucial roles in the Asia Cup and T20I World Cup.

Known for his composure in the death overs, Bumrah’s prowess also earned him a place in the 2017 ICC Champions Trophy squad. Despite an unfortunate no-ball on a wicket-taking delivery to Fakhar Zaman, he displayed remarkable resilience and continued to impress. Time and again, Bumrah proved to be the go-to bowler for captain Virat Kohli in limited-overs cricket and eventually even in Test matches. During his debut tour of South Africa, in just his third Test, he took a fifer, showcasing his potential in the longest format of the game.

The 2019 World Cup provided Bumrah with an excellent platform to assert his dominance as the top-ranked ODI bowler in the world. With a phenomenal tally of 18 wickets in nine matches and an impressive economy rate of 4.41, he emerged as India’s leading wicket-taker in the tournament. Bumrah’s deadly yorkers posed significant challenges for batsmen, but unfortunately, they also led to an injury to his teammate Vijay Shankar during a net session.

Post the 2019 World Cup, during India’s second Test Championship match against West Indies in Jamaica, Bumrah etched his name in history by claiming a Test hat-trick, dismissing Darren Bravo, Shamarh Brooks, and Roston Chase. He joined the elite company of Harbhajan Singh and Irfan Pathan as only the third Indian to achieve this feat. With youth on his side and an ever-improving skill-set, the talented pacer appears poised to create numerous bowling records for India.

Jasprit Bumrah’s journey from being a promising T20 player to becoming the leader of India’s bowling attack across formats is a testament to his determination, talent, and hard work. As he continues to evolve as a cricketer, fans around the world eagerly anticipate witnessing more awe-inspiring performances from this cricketing marvel.
