After a hard-fought dramatic draw in Dubai, the 2 match test series levels 0-0 and both the teams will now meet at Abu Dhabi for the second test starting from Tuesday morning. With Pakistan holding on to the driver’s seat in all the four days, Skipper Tim Paine and Usman Khwaja helped Australia salvage the unlikeliest of a draw.

After Australia’s dramatic 202-10 collapse in the first innings, Pakistan were pretty confident of a win when they gave Kangaroos a record 462 to win in the second innings. However, Aaron Finch (49) and Usman Khawaja (141) gave Australia a much steady start similar to the first innings, collecting 87 runs for the opening wicket. But, Mohammad Abbas dismissed Aaron Finch and Shaun Marsh (0) in the same over to trigger the collapse in second innings too. The win was more evident when he sent back Mitchell Marsh too on a duck in his next over. At a time Australia were lingering at 87-3, Pakistan just 7 wickets away from leading the series by 1-0.

However, this was the time when Travis Head and Usman Khawaja reflected strong characters and held on their nerves. On the fifth day, Australia didn’t lose a single wicket in the morning session and gradually slid towards a draw. But, they received a major blow post lunch when Travis Head and Marnus Labuschagne got dismissed. Once again, doors were wide open for Pakistan to sneak a win. However, a determined Tim Paine along with Usman Khawaja was in no mood to give up easily and pulled off a draw with just two wickets in the kitty. Australia scored 362-8 before the match was called off as a draw with one ball to spare.

“While it was great we did fight back, a draw is a draw and we’re here to win,”

said Tim Paine who looks unsatisfied by the draw and is eyeing a win in the second test match. Both the teams will meet at Sheikh Zayed Stadium, Abu Dhabi tomorrow for the second test.
