After suffering four defeats in a row, Kandahar Knights finally registered their maiden win of the 2018 Afghanistan Premier League after they successfully defended 8-137 against the Nangarhar Leopards.

After opting to bat first, the Knights’ got off to a worst possible start as Mujeeb Ur Rahman, in a pulsating spell of bowling, ran through the top-order to leave them reeling at 5-27.

Wessels (22) and Najibullah Zadran (24) consolidated the innings with a 41-run stand but it was Karim Janat’s swashbuckling 21-ball-40 that propelled the Knights’ to a competitive total of 8-137.

The late-order efforts by Wessels, Zadran and Karim spurred on the bowling unit as Naveed (2-10), Waqar Salamkheil (3-20) and Janat himself, ran through Nangarhar’s line-up to bowl them out for a paltry 110- 26 runs adrift of the target.

Zazai blitz goes in vain

Hazratullah Zazai’s blitz that saw him register his name among a select few cricketers to have hit six 6s in an over wasn’t enough as Kabul fell to a 21-run defeat against Balkh Legends.

Chasing a mammoth 6-244, Ronchi (47) and Zazai (62) gave Kabul an ideal platform to build on but Ben Laughlin’s three-wicket-haul ensured that the Rashid Khan-led unit finished with 7-223- 21 runs adrift of the target.
