Both Arsenal and Chelsea went through managerial changes last summer. While the Blues had a relatively settles squad with the core of their title-winning 2016-17 campaign pretty much intact, the Gunners were seen more of as a club going through the transition.

The big reason was the departure of Arsene Wenger who left the club after 22 years.

Arsenal, of course, didn’t have the greatest of starts under Unai Emery. Much of that because of the tough start he was handed. But after the games against Manchester City and Chelsea, Gunners went on a 14-game unbeaten streak in the Premier League, improving their chances of finishing in the top-4.

Though Emery’s team suffered negative results here and there, it’s safe to say that Gunners have gone about their business this season and sit just one point adrift of 3rd placed Tottenham Hotspur. A more interesting fact is that their current points tally of 60 points from 30 games is just 4 shy of what they achieved under Wenger last season.

Emery, of course, deserves full credit for Arsenal’s rise. He hasn’t been shy of taking some harsh decisions, like of Mesut Ozil who has been in and out of the team due to his reluctance to work without the ball.

Nevertheless, Arsenal are bookies favorites now to secure a top-four finish. And that’s because of their benign looking fixture list. Gunners have no fixture against top-six teams till the end of the season.

Newcastle United, meanwhile, are 14th in the table, six points adrift of the bottom three.

Following their last gasp 2-2 draw against Bournemouth the last time around, the Toons are on the same number of points as last season.

Regardless, Rafa Benitez’s main target is to steer the club to safety and as things stand in the table, one win may be enough to secure top-flight status for yet another season.

Newcastle have some form behind them, winning five and drawing two of their last nine matches. But their away form doesn’t augurs good as the Magpies have lost 17 of theur last 23 on the road.

Injured – As for Newcastle United, Rob Elliot and Sean Longstaff will be missing the action.
Suspended – Fabian Shar may have suffered a head injury while on international duty with Switzerland, he would have still missed the game as he is suspended for this match.
Questionable – Jamaal Lascelles missed the game against Bournemouth and will be assessed before the match.
