This would be payback time for Sunil Chhetri and company for the last the time when these two teams met in the final but the Super Machans came out on the top. Bengaluru FC were looking rock solid from the start in the last season but it all became pointless when they fell short of Chennayin FC. However, they would be looking to start this campaign on a positive note and would aim for their first ISL title by beating Chennaiyin FC in their opening game. Under new coach Bengaluru FC has shifted to a new formation on the ground where both Sunil Chhetri and Miku would start as strikers compared to last season’s lone striker tactic under former coach Albert Roca. They have retained four of their eight international players from last season and has also brought along some rare talents to strengthen the squad for this time.
Chennaiyin FC, the reigning champions made it clear that they would be eyeing to defend the title at all cost this time out and they have brought along talents from Brazil, Spain to increase a variety to their attack and are looking very positive under their coach John Gregory. The two times champions would come into this game knowing the importance of the clash and are most likely to field their strongest lineup.

Chennaiyin FC will be missing the services of Dhanpal Ganesh this season. Head Coach John Gregory said on Saturday that his team will definitely miss Dhanpal because of his offensive and defensive work both with and without the ball. But he claimed that the defending champions are equipped with enough talent to replace Ganesh.
Form and Preparations- Chennai’s preparations have been substandard, to say the least as they lost all their four games in Malaysia against Felda United, Malaysia U-19s, Terengganu FC and Malaysian Indian Football Association.
Key players leaving – Chennaiyin will also have to make do without their best center-back of last season, Henrique Sereno, while the departure of midfielder Rene Mihelic and forward Bikramjit Singh may dent their capabilities in the middle of the park to some degrees.
Replacements – Chennai’s answer to replace Sereno is Eli Sabia, while in midfield, we will see the Spanish midfielder Andre Orlandi pulling the strings. Palestinian forward Carlos Salom’s services have also been acquired, who is expected to support Indian star-striker Jeje Lalpekhua. Other notable draftees include Sinivasan Pandiyan, Isaac Vanmalsawma, defenders Tondonba Singh and Laldinliana Renthlei.
Bengaluru FC – The last year’s runners-up have managed to keep hold 12 of their core players from the last season. Some of the high-profile players who have re-signed with the club are goalkeeper Gurpreet Singh Sandhu, defenders Rahul Bheke and Harmanjot Khabra along with attackers Boithang Haokip, Thongkhosiem Haokip, and Udanta Singh.
New Signings- BFC have drafted 5 youngsters from their own academy while the Midfielder Kean Lewis and defender Sairuat Kima are the new players who are expected to increase the fight for the places. Defenders Rino Anto and Gursimrat Singh Gill and goalkeeper Soram Poirei also returned to BFC. Among foreign players are Dimas Delgado, Juanan Gonzalez, and Erik Paartalu. The Blues also signed Xisco Hernandez and striker Chencho Gyeltshen, besides new signee Albert Serran.
Form and Preparations- Bengaluru FC are still fresh from dismantling I League giants Kingfisher East Bengal in the final of the inaugural Super Cup, while the trip to Spain to face the teams like Barcelona B and Villarreal B must have instilled a competitive edge in Carles Cuadrat’s team.
Star Power – Last season, Indian superstar Suneil Chettri and Miku scored a whopping 26 goals for the team, and the same is expected from both the players this season as well. Chettri will once again captain the team in the 2018-19 season.
