Sporting Kansas City Team News:

  • Take a few first-team players out, and the manager may find some difficulty in naming his best playing 11. But with Kansas City, the lengthy injury list is the main antagonist for their recent struggles.
  • As many as five Kansas players will be missing the game with the injury, while more than half a dozen have been listed as questionable. How much the squad is running thin with the options could be seen from the fact that manager Peter Vermes could name only five players on the bench for the last game.

  • Forwards Erik Hurtado (right knee surgery) and Gerso Fernandes (broken wrist) will be missing the match.
  • The defense is light as both Jaylin Lindsey (torn meniscus) and Rodney Wallace (hip surgery) are out of contention.
  • While Honduran midfielder Roger Espinoza has been ruled out with a knee injury.
Matt Besler was subbed off in the 79th minute against Saunders with a hamstring injury. He remains questionable. Image credit @Twitter
  • Antonio Bustamante (knee injury), Daniel Salloi (groin injury), Graham Zusi (oblique injury), Wan Kuzain (ankle injury) and Andreu Fontas (calf injury) have all been listed as doubtful by Kansas City and will be evaluated before the match.
  • In additional news, Krisztian Nemeth will be serving a one-game suspension here and won’t be available for selection. Initially, he was given a one-game ban following his foul play against Vancouver Whitecaps and served his suspension against Seattle Saunders. But MLS extended the ban by an extra game.

Possible ins or outs of this game:

  • Should Matt Besler deemed not fit enough to start due to his hamstring problem, fellow American Graham Smith will be partnering Botond Baráth at the back.

  • Head coach Peter Vermes has his options cut off by the injuries and will most probably go with the same playing 11 which started against Seattle Saunders. Some changes are expected in the starting 11 nonetheless, especially at the back.
  • Johnny Russell, Yohan Croizet and Kelyn Rowe will start in what will be a front three for the hosts.

Probable XI: Melia (GK), Sinovic, Smith, Barath, Hasler, Guiterrez, Sanchez, Feilhaber, Rowe, Russell, Croizet

LA Galaxy FC Team News:

  • The only player on the injury list for LA Galaxy is Romain Alessandrini. The 30-year-old French winger hasn’t featured for Galaxy since suffering a knee injury against Houston Dynamo in April.

Possible ins or outs of this game:

  • Superstar Zlatan Ibrahimovic‘s two-game suspension is over and the Swedish international will come straight into the starting 11. The former Barcelona and AC Milan player was handed a ban for grabbing New York City FC goalkeeper Sean Johnson by the neck.
  • Fabio Álvarez could be the player moving to the bench for Ibrahimovic.

  • Defensive midfielder Perry Kitchen has recovered from the foot injury and will be in the matchday squad. He is expected to be on the bench with last match’s scorer Jonathan dos Santos and Joe Corona starting in the heart of the midfield.
  • A change in the formation is expected as well from the visitors. We expect the head coach Guillermo Barros Schelotto to put in an extra midfielder to stifle the hosts. Chris Pontius may start, replacing the 22-year-old Argentine Emil Cuello in the playing 11.

Probable XI: Bingham (GK), Skjelvik, Gonzalez, Steres, Feltscher, Corona, Dos Santos, Chris Pontius, Antuna, Lletget, Ibrahimovic

Captain and Vice-Captain Selection:

Johnny Russell: For the captain option, we go for Scotland’s Johnny Russell. The 29-year-old single-handedly won the last game for Kansas City, as he netted a brilliant hat-trick. Also, another big reason to make him your captain is that he scored in both the games against LA Galaxy last season. Take a look at his stats:

  • Games: 12
  • Goals: 7
  • Assists: 3
  • Shots: 30
  • Shots on Goal: 15
  • Fouls: 7

———————————————————————————————————————————————

X-Factor- Galaxy’s Jonathan dos Santos. The former Villarreal and Barcelona midfielder scored Galaxy’s only goal in the last game, which was his second strike of the season. Kansas City are at home and boast an unbeaten record against the visitors in home games. They are expected to control the proceedings and that’s where the 29-year-old could make a telling difference from the midfield.

Risky option: Gianluca Busio. Just 17, but he has impressed in minutes he has been given by the head coach this season. In fact, the Italian born midfielder has scored 3 goals for the Kansas City this season.

He may not start this match, but he could be a game changer from the bench.
