Nantes will be desperate to see the end of the season where they have been poor for the most part of the campaign. Not only their position on the table is poor, but the fact that they flirted with the relegation makes this season one of the worst campaigns in recent memories.
The danger is not out though. Not if we consider their current form which reads four consecutive defeats heading into this match.
But the Canaries should be fine at the end of the current campaign and should secure top-flight status for another season.
Nantes have failed to find the back of the net in five of their last 8 games, conceding nine goals and tasting defeat five times during that run-in.
But the more concerning fact is that Nantes have won just twice in the last 12 matches, and hold little threat going forward. No forward player looks ready to carry the burden of scoring goals with Abdul Waris, Gabriel Boschillia and Kalifa Koulibaly all failing in that task.
While Lyon aren’t having a good season either. In fact, the club is in turmoil with players and the manager having no clue about where the club is heading.
Part of that because of the uncertain future of manager Bruno Genesio. His contract is set to end in summer and there are no indication from the club president whether he would be offered a new one.
Jose Mourinho is also being linked with Lyon job, but no official offer has been made in that regard.
While some top players, including Nabil Fekir, are being linked with a move away from the Groupama Stadium. So in a sense, it has been quite difficult for Genesio to work in such a toxic environment.
Understandably, the results have taken a hit with Lyon failing to maintain a good run of late. They lost the last two matches including a chastening 2-3 loss in the French Cup semifinal.
