The 2019 Major League Soccer (MLS) season is losing its charm for Colorado Rapids, while Portland Timbers are not out of danger by any means if the race for the post-season is concerned.

For Timbers especially, it’s a case of checking out the collapse which could only be extenuated with wins.

Their next game come against one of the teams who are currently not being seen as the playoff entity. So the match is a chance to win all the three points in front of their own fans.

Their opponents are Colorado Rapids, who are propping up the table in the Western Conference these days, while Portland are 9th, but could move within a point off the playoffs with a win in this match.

Portland Timbers Team News:

  • Portland issued their squad news, and no player has been listed as “out” ahead of this match. However, the availability of a few players is still under clouds, due to the knocks and other reasons.

  • As many as five players could miss this game. The players being Bill Tuiloma (right thigh injury), Jorge Villafaña (left thigh injury), Aljaz Ivacic (neck injury), Jeff Attinella (right shoulder), and Modou Jadama (right lower leg).

Possible INs and OUTs of this game:

  • Jeff Attinella may be Portland’s first choice goalkeeper and is a doubt for this match, but even he is fit, he may not ride straight back to the playing 11. For his deputy, Steve Clark has been phenomenal, to say the least, keeping a clean sheet in the last three matches.

  • The same can be said about Claude Dielna, who looks a great fit alongside Larrys Mabiala at the back. It means Bill Tuiloma may not be rushed back from his injury.
  • Brian Fernández is fit and will definitely start the match as a forward, with Sebastián Blanco, Diego Valeri, and Dairon Asprilla all featuring behind him in the midfield and wings positions.

Portland Timbers Probable XI:

Clark (GK), Farfan, Dielna, Mabiala, Valentin, Zambrano, Flores, Blanco, Aspirilla, Valeri, Fernandez

Colorado Rapids Team News:

  • While the visitors will miss Kortne Ford (knee surgery), and Deklan Wynne (foot injury) due to their injuries.
  • In addition, Kellyn Acosta is set to serve a one-game ban here for the two yellow card offense in the last game.
  • Furthermore, midfielder Jack Price remains a doubt due to the foot injury. He will be assessed before the game.

Possible INs and OUTs of this game:

  • Conor Casey doesn’t have the luxury of making wholesale changes to his playing 11, and we expect the squad to remain mostly the same as it was in the last game.
  • That said, Kellyn Acosta is suspended and his place will either be grabbed by Cole Bassett or Nicolás Mezquida.
With Acosta out with a suspension, Colorado may look up to Nicolás Mezquida. Image @Twitter
  • Even both the aforementioned players could start the game. In that case, Andre Shinyashiki may be left on the bench.

Colorado Rapids Probable XI:

Howard (GK), Vines, Smith, Abubakar, Rosenberry, Wilson, Cole Bassett, Rubio, Lewis, Mezquida, Kamara
