With less than a quarter of the regular-season remaining, Sporting Kansas City FC are running out of both time and games in their pursuit for the post-season.
But even an all winning run to the end of the season may not be enough to propel them into the playoff positions. For that to happen, other teams have to stumble here and there, dropping enough points for Kansas to leverage.
Minnesota United, though, despite sitting at a respectable 2nd place in the Western Conference, are only five points adrift of FC Dallas in 8th. It’s a good gap at this stage, but there are enough games to send them into a dangerous situation if results go south.
Still, Minnesota are huge favorites to qualify for the playoffs.
The Major League Soccer match will be played between Sporting Kansas City FC and Minnesota United at Children’s Mercy Park, in Kansas City, Kansas, United States. The ground has a capacity of 18,467.
The game will start at 07:00 AM (IST), on Friday, August 23.

Potential Game Changers:
Likely to score:
Captain and Vice-Captain Selection:
Felipe Gutierrez: Sporting problems are evidently clear that their highest goal scorer this season is the midfielder, Felipe Gutierrez.
For the team, these are not good signs when the strikers are not scoring enough, but on a personal level, things couldn’t have been smoother for the 28-year-old Chilean.
Johnny Russell: The Scottish has been a revelation ever since making a move from Derby County to the Major League Soccer last season.
He scored 10 goals and recorded 10 assists in his debut season and has been equally effective this season as well.
Darwin Quintero: An experienced forward with almost a decade of experience of playing at the very top level. He is quick, full of skills and is a threat with goals and his passing.
Krisztian Nemeth: He is listed as doubtful, but will be given every chance to prove his fitness. The 30-year-old is a technical player and is a proven goalscorer.
