This fixture is a repeat of the Copa del Rey semifinal match from this season. Valencia were down by two goals in the first leg and had their backs against the walls for most of the match.

But football can be cruel, and unpredictable. Winners can come out of the blues and against the run of the plays. That’s what happened in Seville at Benito.

Valencia upped the ante in the last half an hour and got the reward as Denis Cheryshev cut the deficit down to a single strike int eh 70th minute. Kevin Gameiro then levelled the score in the 2nd minute of the injury time.

The 2nd leg was a bit too harsh on the visitors as Betis absolutely bossed the game from the off. They had clear chances, more possession, more corners and showed more urgency in their play. But the Los Che scored the all-important goal, and this booked a final date with Barcelona.

Valencia have their tails up for the last couple of months. Defensively, they were always astute, but they are now backing that with goals as well. The impressive run of results has put Los Che in good stead for the Champions League places. The fourth-placed Sevilla are just three points ahead of them on the table.

Real Betis meanwhile sit 9th with 43 points from 32 games. But they can also secure the European football next season as the sixth place is not out of their reach.

For that to happen, the next game against Valencia is of ultra importance. This is a six-pointer for the hosts as a win will take them within three points of their visitors in sixth.

Indeed, their form indicates that the beating an in-form Valencia could prove to be a tough nut to crack. For the Los Verdiblancos have won just once in the last five games.

But even in the 3-2 defeat away to eternal rivals Sevilla, they played some good football. As always, Quique Setién’s team had the lion’s share of possession, but the defence undid them in the end.
