The home team Chennayin FC are, with 17 points from eight games, and FC Pune City, with 16 points from eight games, both can go temporarily top of the table with a win on Saturday. The home team, in particular, will be desperate for a win after a 2-2 draw against Delhi Dynamos in the previous game where they conceded the equalizer late on after looking to be in control for the majority of the game.
The South Indian outfit has been leaking goals for quite late in the game, pointing to a lack of focus for the entire ninety minutes. They threw away at least four points by shipping two late goals against Kerala Blasters and Delhi Dynamos. Interestingly, Chennaiyin relied on a late goal themselves to beat Pune City earlier this season when the teams met in Pune.
They will be buoyed by the return of Henrique Sereno in central defense while FC Pune City will miss the services of Marcelinho up front.
Chennaiyin, apart from their recent tendency to concede late on, has been a solid defensive outfit with Dhanpal Ganesh and Germanpreet Singh protecting the defense ably in midfield. FC Pune City, on the other hand, has been a very good attacking side. Moreover, Emiliano Alfaro and Diego Carlos are more than capable of filling the void left by Marcelinho who is suspended for this fixture after picking up four yellow cards.
However, despite the solid presence of Marcos Tebar and Adil Khan in midfield, they have been a bit sloppy in possession which has presented their opponents chances to capitalize. It is an area the Stallions have to improve.
Interestingly, the head coaches of both the teams are suspended following their criticisms of the refereeing standards in the league which has been poor so far. While Ranko Popovic is serving the third game of his four-match ban, John Gregory is sitting out the second of his three-match ban.
Will it be the home team who goes top of the table on Saturday or will Pune City steal a march on them? The stage is set for an engrossing clash!

Even though the points table indicate that Chennaiyin FC is the better team on sheets and on the ground, it wouldn't be wise to rule out the away team so quickly in this game because they are just breathing on the home team's neck. If FC Pune City gets an early opportunity they would dominate the game. Our money is on FC Pune City in this game.
