Real Madrid suffer double blow during EURO 2020 Qualifiers

Croatia’s main man in midfield, Luka Modric and Wales’ winger, Gareth Bale have sustained knocks during a Group E clash in the European Qualifiers.

Both Wales and Croatia had to settle for a 1-1 draw by the end of the night, with Bale being on the scoresheet for his side. As the game ended, Gareth Bale was seen in discomfort and was limping off the field.

His Real Madrid comrade, Luka Modric too was substituted in the final few minutes of the match. Head coach of Wales, Ryan Giggs gave an update that Bale had felt a cramp, and since Giggs had used up all his substitutes, Bale had no other choice but to compromise.

Ryan Giggs’ comment on Gareth Bale

“He didn’t want to come off,” continued Giggs. “It was a fantastic performance [by him]. It was a shame he got that for the last 10 minutes, so we were down one player really.”

Luka Modric was anchoring the midfield but was withdrawn from the ground after a muscle strain got the better of him.

Zlatko Dalic’s comments on Luka Modrica

“[Modric] got hit in the muscle, which is awkward and quite painful, so he had to go off,” said the Croatia boss. “He will certainly need a two to three-day break, but I hope he will be alright.”

With club football edging close, Zinedine Zidane will have a nice long look at Gareth Bale and Luka Modric’s fitness as they take on Real Mallorca in La Liga. What soon follows is a big game against Galatasaray in the UEFA Champions League, making it a must-win for Los Blancos since they’ve got just the one point off the two games in their group.

Madrid will then go on to take Barcelona the following weekend for the first El Clasico of the season.
