Tottenham Hotspur star striker Harry Kane is a fitness concern for Carabao Cup quarter-final clash against Arsenal on Wednesday. The England forward did not train with the team on Tuesday suffering from a cold, and now he undergo a health check on Wednesday to see if he can take part in the fixture.
Speaking to the press, Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino said, “We need to assess him because he had a cold this morning, and he didn’t go outside to train. Big decision. If we consider that can cover 90 minutes, maybe he can play. If not maybe he will be on the bench. And if nothing happens in the afternoon. To protect him he didn’t train outside, he was doing something in the gym.”
A few changes can be expected for Tottenham, and as Pochettino would be looking to balance his squad for the upcoming challenges. The London-based club has a few days off over the Christmas period ahead of a busy winter with the resumption of Champions League campaign against Borussia Dortmund.
Pochettino could go with Paolo Gazzaniga for the goalkeeping duties after the Argentinean put on an impressive show in appearances he has had a shot. On Gazzaniga, Pochettino said, “He is going to play. We consider Hugo for different reasons needs to breathe. Paulo after Watford and West Ham deserves to play.”
Juan Foyth is another who is expected to return for Spurs after staying out for the last two weeks with a thigh injury and is likely to partner Toby Alderweireld at the backline. Pochettino ruled out the comeback of Davinson Sanchez who is back in the training after six weeks. Tottenham boss said, “He is close, maybe for the weekend.”
