Champions League

ROM vs BAR MATCH PREVIEW:

Arguably the game against AS Roma presents the easiest draw that Barcelona could have hoped for in the quarterfinal of the Champions League.

Since Barcelona were the first team that came out of the pot during the draw, they will be playing at home in the first leg at Camp Nou.

The Catalan giants are unbeaten both in La Liga and the Champions League so far this season, and their only loss in a competitive game came against Espanyol in the 1st leg of 2018 Copa del Rey. Barca avenged the loss immediately, winning the 2nd leg at Camp Nou. Now they are in the final of Copa del Rey, where they will be facing Sevilla in the final.

So that final gives Ernesto Valverde a big chance to add a trophy to his cabinet, while they are destined to win the La Liga this season, meaning Barca are in prime position to win two trophies under Valverde in his first full season as a manager of the Catalan giants.

While in the Champions League, the five-times Champions topped the group and were pitted against Chelsea in the last-16.

After drawing the first leg 1-1 at Stamford Bridge, Lionel Messi came into his own as his two beautifully taken goals made the easy work of English Champions.

Barcelona drew their last game 2-2 against Sevilla in the league, and that extended their unbeaten streak to 17 games in all competitions.

While in home games, Barca are unbeaten and have kept 11 clean sheets in their last 13 games.

Roma, on the other hand, are having a very good season as well. They came out as a group winner which had Chelsea and the 2013 La Liga Champions Atletico Madrid in it. So that was some achievement for Eusebio Di Francesco and his men.

In Serie A, they are 3rd in the table, 18 points behind Juventus and only three points clear of 5th placed Lazio. That’s a respectable position considering the competitive nature of Serie A.

They drew their last game 1-1 against Bologna which saw their four-game winning streak ended. Also, Roma have won just four games on the road in their last 12 away games.

So all these stats indicate a difficult outing for the visitors against the hosts.
