About Carrom Board Game?

Carrom is an indoor tabletop game played by a group of two or four people at social events and unique occasions with family and friends. It is also known as “finger billiards” or “fatta” in colloquial terms.

Number of Players in Carrom Board Game

Carrom consists of two variants: singles and doubles. Singles are made up of two people sitting opposite each other, whereas doubles are made up of two teams, with partners from one team sitting on one side and the other team sitting on the opposite side. On the other hand, there are three players who compete to win a Carrom gaming session during casual social gaming.

The carrom board is a square plywood board with a playing area of 74 cm x 74 cm (29″) and has netted pockets. It has a hard-wearing finish with a less frictional surface that uses Talcum powder for rebounding. 

Carrom Coins

Carrom is a board game that comprises white, black, and red tokens. There are nine white tokens, nine black tokens, and one red token. These wooden discs are also referred to as carrom men or coins. 

Carrom Points 

When a carrom game begins, each token has its own value. The values of black carrom coins are 10 points each, and white carrom coins are 12 points each. And the queen or red carrom coin has 50 points.

Carrom Board Design

The design of a carrom board tells its whole story, including how to play it and what to do with it.

  • The board consists of a circle in the center, and coins are arranged inside the circle at the center and struck by the striker.
  • It has baselines on four sides, with red circles at the end of every baseline.

Rules of Playing Carrom Board Game

Breaking 

“Breaking” means the first shot of a carrom board game, and the player who strikes the first shot in the middle of the game is called a “breaker.” They play for the white piece, and if it goes inside a net on the board, their turn continues.

Turns

If you put a piece in any pocket, your turn will continue until you fail to successfully put it in any net pocket. In a doubles game, a turn passes anti-clockwise from right to left.

Covering the Queen

After netting a queen, you need to put any piece into a pocket to give a cover to the queen. If you fail to do so, the red coin or queen will come back to the board.

Fouls of Carrom Board Game

Some moves can be considered fouls if you do these 

  • Pocketing the striker
  • If you net your opponent’s piece.
  • If a piece leaves out of the board.
  • If your arms cross a diagonal of the line.
  • If you are successful in three attempts to break properly.
  • If your final piece is put down in its pocket without covering the queen. 
  • If you incorrectly place the striker before hitting a shot.
