Dinesh Karthik to lead Kolkata Knight Riders in IPL 2018

Dinesh Karthik would be leading the team of Kolkata Knight Riders in the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League.

KKR bought Dinesh Karthik for INR 7.4 crores in the auction and has announced him as the new skipper of the team on 7th April. Robin Uthappa has been named as the vice-captain of the team.

Dinesh Karthik has played 152 matches in the last ten editions of IPL for five different teams, now he would be featuring in KKR for the eleventh edition.

 

“Dinesh has been playing in the IPL since last 10 years. He has got a 72 per cent win-rate which is outstanding as a T20 skipper,” Assistant coach Simon Katich told Star Sports in an interview.

Gautam Gambhir’s successor Dinesh Karthik said, “It is an honour to get an opportunity to lead the KKR as it is one of the most successful franchises in the IPL. I will do my best to represent the team and millions of KKR fans.”

The veteran keeper-batsman played for Gujrat Lions in 2017 where he scored 361 runs at an average of 36.1. In the sixth season, he was a key player for Mumbai Indians where he scored 510 runs and took 14 scalps. Karthik has also played for Kings XI Punjab, Delhi Daredevils and Royal Challengers Bangalore and has piled up 2903 runs at a strike rate of 125.94. He has effected 114 dismissals in his IPL career.

Winners of two seasons, KKR would be locking horns with Royal Royals at home on April 8.
