Allisha Gray dribbling DAL vs IND Dream11

DAL vs IND Dream11: The WNBA is at halfway stage and there is no doubt that we have been blessed with scintillating battles throughout the season. It is only going to get more intense from here and looking at this season, I have observed that the defense has seen humungous improvements, so you gotta the be an A-tier player on offense for most nights. However, defense hasn’t been the calling card of the Indiana Fever so far, so will they stall the long-range shooting of the Dallas Wings?

The Wings have played much better than last season but just like last season, building winning streaks have not been their strong suit. The Wings have lost nine and won eight games and will march into this game after losing the Hawks 75:80 despite an 18 points night by Allisha Gray. On the other hand, Indiana Fever’s script remains the same; a lot of losses. So far they have won just five out of 18 games, however, they pulled out their one of the best games in their last meeting versus the Sky, defeating them 89:87 as NaLyssa Smith nabbed 26 points. Can the Wings get their long-range game going against the Fever?

WNBA Projections, Stats & Analysis

Wings need to finish well

The Wings have once again struggled to dominate the major periods and their inability to close out games has been the difference from them being a 55-60% win team to an around 50% win team. While it is true that there have been improvements as the team has built an elite shooting unit, they have been way too inconsistent.

Ogunbowale continues to be the premier scorer but Mabrey and Gray have also supported her well as long[-range shooters. Isabelle Harrison started out red-hot but has cooled down significantly, while not having Sabally hurts the depth. Coach Vickie needs to instill better combinations I believe. The Wings can do much better.

Fever is stacked with young talent

The Fever has been amidst another horrific season but they have laid a solid foundation for the future. Indiana has been one of the worst defensive teams, allowing opponents to stack up a bunch of points. This always surprises me considering they have such a brisk defensive young player in NaLyssa Smith but perhaps the Guards are not able to stall the perimeter, which enables open lanes.

However, NaLyssa Smith has been a Rookie of the Year candidate, hoarding rebounds and steadily getting comfortable with the defense of the WNBA. Kelsey Mitchell has been the heartbeat on offense and continues to be gutsy on the offensive end. Except for these two, there is no doubt that the Fever has struggled to find an option to get the gears going.
