Kawhi Leonard come face to face with his former team Toronto Raptors for the first time after helping the Canadian franchise to its first-ever NBA title last summer. Though the game is in La La Land, Raptors fans are expected to be in the stands and Leonard is expected to get a very good reception.
Raptors had a magnificent result in the last match at Staples Ceyer as they down the Los Angeles Lakers 104-113 to end LeBron James and Co’s 7-game winning streak. All more impressive was that the result considering the Raptors missed Kyle Lowry and Serge Ibaka to injuries.
But Pascal Siakam and Fred VanVleet, along with the bench, showed the spirit of the champions, for despite shorthanded, despite missing key teammates, they maintained a high-level, executed the plans to perfection, in particular against LeBron James who had the season’s lowest points tally. Siakam ended the match with a double-double 27 points and 11 rebounds, while VenVleet also scored a double-double as he had 23 points and 10 assists.
The Clippers are in good form as well as they come into this matchup fresh off beating Portland Trail Blazers 107-101.
Kawhi Leonard: The best player of last season is up and running for the Clippers, showing why he is being considered as one of the best two-way players ever to grace this sport. The reigning NBA MVP is averaging a team-high 29.0 points per game this season.
Pascal Siakam: Leonard’s heir and from what we have seen, the title is no exaggeration. The 25-year-old is averaging a team-high 27.4 points per game this season and is fresh off dismantling the Lakers in the last game.
Lou Williams: Arguably, the best player to come off the bench. The 33-year-old is averaging 22.4 points per game this season.
Players likely to make a big impact:
Clippers: Paul George is nearing a return but this game has come too soon for him at the moment. The former Oklahoma City Thunder superstar is yet to feature for the Clippers and play alongside Kawhi Leonard as he continues to recover from a shoulder injury. No other reported injury concerns or suspension to concerns with the Clippers. Kawhi Leonard should play this game.
Raptors: The visitors will miss the services of Kyle Lowry who suffered a finger injury against New Orleans Pelicans last week. The back-up big man Serge Ibaka is also out for the indefinite period due to an injury. Meanwhile, Patrick McCaw remains a long-term absentee for the Raptors due to a knee injury.
