SAS vs LAL Dream11: The wild goose chase for the Play-in tournament has been in full flow lately. With the tournament just a few weeks away, the current window will surely play a decisive role in determining which teams get to advance and which teams will fall short. So, yes, it isn’t like that any part of the season is irrelevant but the current countdown plays a huge role because the window to make a winning run keeps shortening. And two teams that have been in contention for Play-in spots in the form of the Los Angeles Lakers and the San Antonio Spurs will clash in this game.

The Lakers have been the butt of many jokes this season but for LeBron James, who dropped a humungous 56 points in the last game, no season has been a joke. Despite all the circus, the Lakers have been holding on to the ninth spot. Will we see some resurrection after the 80% of the season has been a big disappointment?

On the other hand, the Spurs have struggled quite a lot these days. They are on a four-game losing streak and they have time and time again failed to close out games. Their defense has also let them down repeatedly but they still have an outside shot of making the Play-in competition. Can the Spurs salvage a spot in the play-in tournament with still a big chance to get there?

NBA Projections, Stats & Analysis

Each game becomes bigger from here on
This is an important period for both squads. The Spurs have lost four in a row and they have hit this streak at the worst time possible because the Pelicans that are above them have hit a sweet spot. Yes, there are also Trail Blazers seated above them but they are unlikely to make much noise from the current period(you may never know though). But the Spurs need a huge refill now because they have three more losses and three fewer than Pelicans as of now and coach Greg will need to find something special from here to make a deep run. While it is true that the team has one of the best offensive units in the league, the defense has let them down.

The Lakers have been struggling all season long and one of the major reasons for that has been the fit between Russell and the team hasn’t just panned out. This has been pretty much the theme for all the season and the Lakers have lacked a strong defensive unit too. Although their play on the defensive end has been much improved, their offense has faltered quite a bit, and his highly reliant upon LBJ. They have been chased by the Pelicans these days with quite a fury and they must be wart of their foes in this game; the Spurs. So, yes, someone like Monk will need to put the hand up and help out LeBron on the offensive end too.

Match-ups
The Spurs have a size advantage in the middle with Jakob Poeltl and on the other hand, Murray has fared better than Russell Westbrook at the PG position. The Spurs have more length with two wings in McDermott and Johnson, a big in Jakob Poeltl but it will be interesting to see if Tre Jones pairs up with Murray in the backcourt. Carmelo Anthony brings stretch-four talent off the bench and the Spurs can face a challenge here because their bench can significantly weaken with Lonnie Walker IV being doubtful for the game. So, can Malik Monk prove to be a decisive factor at the off-guard position?
