How both the teams fared in the first stage?

Venezuela:

Placed in Group A, alongside Poland, Ivory Coast and the hosts China, Venezuela failed to match the expectations from their display in the first round.

A 69-80 loss in the game-1 against Poland was unexpected, but the South American team bucked up for the next two games, beating Ivory Coast 87-71 and China 72-59 to secure a berth in the 2nd round.

However, the world no-20 team didn’t have the best of the start as Argentina toppled them 87-67 to put more pressure on Néstor García’s men ahead of their next assignment against Russia.

Russia:

Russian opened their World Cup campaign with two wins in as many games against Nigeria and South Korea respectively.

The 3rd and the final game in Group B set-up a clash between Argentina and Russi for the top-spot.

It was a close game and could have gone either way, but the South American team saw off the challenge from their European counterpart despite Andrey Zubkov and Co- threatening a comeback in the fourth quarter.

Like Venezuela, Russia come into this game on the back of a loss in the first game in the 2nd round.
