R Ashwin and Gibbs' twitter spat

As India and South Africa are locking horns on the field for the T20I series, India off spinner R Ashwin and former South Africa batsman Herschelle Gibbs have indulged in a war of words on Twitter.

Ashwin, who is not playing for India in the ongoing series against South Africa announced his association with a popular brand on the social platform. He praised the stunning design of the shoes and called it comfortable to use. Also, he called them the best running shoes.

To this Gibbs jokingly tweeted a remark that perhaps offended Ashwin.

Ashwin evidently, didn’t like the remark and took a jibe on the former South Africa cricketer, who was fined and suspended by Cricket South Africa after he was found guilty of match-fixing.

Gibbs was found to be guilty of match-fixing scandal which also involved former South African captain Hansi Cronje, who allegedly offered him $15,000 to underperform in the 3rd One Day International against India in 2000.  Ashwin poked the past to humiliate Gibbs.

Gibbs further decided to bury the past and posted a friendly message in reply

Ashwin also understood that probably he has taken the matter too far and invited Gibbs to dine-in sometime.

Ashwin later deleted the post and decided to extinguish the fire he had caused.

R Ashwin has been conferred with ‘Icon of Chennai’ award on 18 February. Former India wicketkeeper and a member of India’s World Cup-winning team of 1983, Syed Kirmani was all praises for star off-spinner R Ashwin for his achievements and dedication to the game. He added that he was a role model for today’s youngsters and they look up to him.

I have no words to express the achievements which R Ashwin has done. My heartiest congratulations to the would-be legend in the making,” Kirmani said at a function in Chennai.
