The emergence of Babar Azam from a talented batsman to Pakistan’s captain in all formats is one of the inspiring stories in the cricketing world, especially from the nation that has always been known to produce quality fast bowlers.
Right from his Under-19 days, he had the knack of scoring runs. In 2010 U-19 World Cup, Babar emerged as the third highest run-scorer of the tournament with 298 runs at an average of 59. This marked the emergence of a future star who would carry the fragile Pakistan batting order for a long time.
Azam is 26 years old. He was born on 15 October, 1994 in Lahore, Punjab.

He made his ODI debut against Zimbabwe in Lahore and scored a fifty. His attractive cricket shots are often pleasing to the eye with his cover-drive being the strength. Babar’s consistency made him one of the mainstays of the batting line-up and he played several important knocks. His ability to win games was enough to make him Pakistan’s captain in the white ball format.
His start to his Test Career wasn’t that impressive though as he struggled against the moving ball initially. But soon, he found his form and was made the Test captain.
Babar is currently the World No. 1 ODI batsman with 865 rating points. India captain Virat Kohli held the position for a long time but Babar was able to dethrone him after his 41-month reign.
Kohli has set new standards in ODI cricket but Azam is not far behind. Kohli is far ahead in terms of runs in all the formats but Babar is putting in some great strides.

Azam made his debut in 2015 while Kohli made his debut in 2008. Both are tough competitors and world-class batters. With age on his side, Babar will have to be consistent for a long period of time to match the genius of Virat Kohli.
