Charith Asalanka, a batting all-rounder, is among the rising talents in Sri Lankan cricket. A left-handed batsman who bowls off-break, Charith marked his arrival into international cricket in an ODI match against England on 29 June 2021, and a few weeks later, he forayed into T20I in a match against India. The Elpitiya-born then made his Test debut against West Indies at Galle on 29 November 2021.

At the domestic level, Charith made his List A debut for Galle in AIA Premier Limited Over Tournament 2015-16. His first-class debut was against Zimbabwe Development XI during the Sri Lanka Development Emerging Team Tour of South Africa and Zimbabwe, where he scalped 2/79 and struck a magnificent 103 in the first innings. His T20 debut was during SLC T20 Tournament 2017-18, where he represented the Sinhalese Sports Club.
Batting in the middle-order, the southpaw has enjoyed a decent amount of success in the ODIs since his arrival. His first fifty was against India at home, following which he averaged 65.33 and 48.67 against South Africa and Zimbabwe while striking 2 fifties in each of the series. Charith’s ability to build onto good starts and pace his innings at a high rate is something that has made him one of the mainstays in their batting line-up. His T20I debut against India was when he showcased his fearless approach to the cricket fraternity to bash a 26-ball 44. His best score in T20Is – a 49-ball 80* – came sometime later against Bangladesh in Sharjah, where he aided the Sri Lankan side in chasing 172.
In franchise cricket, Charith was roped in by Jaffna Kings in Lanka Premier League 2020-21, however, the performances turned out to be quite mediocre – 70 runs in 4 matches and a wicket – which resulted in him later signing up for Kandy Warriors for the 2021-22 edition. That season turned out to be huge for the batting all-rounder, who amassed the second-most runs for his side (164) while striking in excess of 137. Also, he managed to pick 2 wickets at an economy of 5.11.
The batting all-rounder is yet to be contracted by any IPL franchise. However, if Charith keeps on improving at his all-round game, be it at the franchise cricket or at the international level, then the day is not far when he bags hefty contracts in the cash-rich tournament.
He hardly posts on Instagram and as far as his love life is concerned, Charith is single and unmarried at present.
