Curtis Campher is an emerging player from Ireland and he made his international debut recently in England. He is a genuine all-rounder and impressed everyone with his abilities in all three departments of the game. But his story of playing international cricket for Ireland is very interesting.
|Birth place||Johannesburg, South Africa|
Curtis Campher was born on 20th April 1999 in Johannesburg, South Africa. He grew up in South Africa with his parents and took education from the famous St Peters school. His desires to play international cricket seemed to be in the right directions when he was selected to play for South Africa U-19 in 2018.
Now in 2018, Ireland were touring South Africa and they were involved in a warm-up match against provincial XI featuring Campher. Niall O’Brien was playing for Ireland and somehow he came to know that he holds an Irish passport through his grandmother. Curtis Campher performed well in that match and Niall O’Brien had a chat with him after the match was over. He came to know that Campher was willing to play for Ireland if an opportunity given to him.
In February 2020, Curtis Campher was selected to play for Ireland Wolves for the tour of Namibia. He went on to make his T20 and List A debuts on that tour and contributed immensely with both the bat and the ball. Later on, he was drafted in Ireland national team for the ODI series against England in July 2020.
Curtis Campher made his ODI debut against England on 30 July 2020. Although Ireland lost the match convincingly but he fought single-handedly with an unbeaten 59 and a wicket with the ball. In the 2nd ODI, he was the top-scorer again for Ireland with 68 runs and picked up a couple of scalps.
