Rovman Powell West Indies Cricketer

After missing out on an opportunity to represent West Indies in the age-group cricket, Rovman Powell was focused mainly on to perform well in the domestic circuit.

In January 2015, he made his List A debut playing for Combined Campuses against Guyana in the Regional Super50 competition. In the first match itself, he made 31 runs and took 3 scalps with the ball. He was named Man of the Match and had a perfect platform to launch himself into the arena of WI cricket. In the following season, Rovman Powell went on to play for Jamaica and made his first-class debut against Guyana. He continued to play limited-overs cricket for Combined Campuses and scored half-centuries in the last two matches of the season of 2015-16.

Then came the season of 2016-17, Jamaica were prolific in the Regional Super50 competition and went all the way through to the final. Rovman Powell had an important part to play all through and particularly so in the semi-final against Trinidad and Tobago. He slammed 95 from just 45 balls and also took 5-36 with the ball to prosper Jamaica into the finals. CPL franchise Jamaica Tallawahs drafted him straight away for the 2017 edition.

Rovman Powell made his ODI debut soon after against Sri Lanka at Harare. He scored 44 runs from just 29 balls in his debut innings which also included 2 fours and 3 sixes. A couple of months later, he was selected for the T20 series against Pakistan at home in 2017. He earned white-ball contract from CWI (Cricket West Indies) for 2018-19 season. Before the start of World Cup Qualifiers in 2018, he was in the list of Top Ten players to watch out for and he was named a rising star of WI squad once the competition ended. He has also led West Indies during the 2018 ODI series against Bangladesh.

Rovman Powell is a complete package for any T20 team and as a result of that, he has remained in demand even in the overseas leagues. Kolkata Knight Riders picked him up during the 2017 IPL auction but Rovman was unfortunate as he didn’t get the opportunity to play. Just round the corner from Kolkata, Dhaka Dynamites selected him as their import during the 2018-19 season of Bangladesh Premier League.
