Hameed’s parents migrated from Gujarat, India. Ismail, his father, is from Umraj village, about a two-hour drive from Surat, and Najma, his mother, is also Gujarati.

Debut vs India

When Hameed debuted for England at Rajkot in November 2016, he became the youngest player ever to open in an English Test match. Hameed achieved his maiden Test half-century on the fourth day of the first Test, making him the third-youngest England batsman to hit 50 runs. After a promising first innings of 31, he was eventually removed for 82 runs. He played two more tests before a finger injury ruled him out for the series.

In 2021, he was named in England’s test squad for the series against New Zealand, but he did not play. He was then picked to the team for the series against India. Prior to the series, he also made a century for the County Select XI in a warmup match against India. Hameed is currently part of England’s team playing the second Test at Lord’s.
