Mary Kom is an Indian Boxer born to Tonpa Kom and Akham Kom. Her family hailed from the North-Eastern state of the country – Manipur.
Mary who now is a Rajya Sabha member of Parliament, won the World Amateur Boxing Championship 5 times. She also is the only woman boxer to win a medal in the six different world championships. She became (and remains) the only Indian woman boxer to qualify for the Summer Olympics in 2012 and went on to compete in the London Olympics, where she clinched the bronze medal in the 51 kg flyweight category.

In 2014, Omung Kumar made a biopic film based on the life of the Indian boxer starring Priyanka Chopra. The film went on to become a success on the box-office.
