Mary Kom is an Indian Boxer born to Tonpa Kom and Akham Kom. Her family hailed from the North-Eastern state of the country – Manipur.

Mary who now is a Rajya Sabha member of Parliament, won the World Amateur Boxing Championship 5 times. She also is the only woman boxer to win a medal in the six different world championships. She became (and remains) the only Indian woman boxer to qualify for the Summer Olympics in 2012 and went on to compete in the London Olympics, where she clinched the bronze medal in the 51 kg flyweight category.

Biopic

In 2014, Omung Kumar made a biopic film based on the life of the Indian boxer starring Priyanka Chopra. The film went on to become a success on the box-office.

• During her participation in the national games in 2001, Kom met her husband Onler Kom. They got married in 2005 and have 3 sons together.
• Kom was blessed with twin sons in 2007 and in 2003, she was blessed with another son.
