Being the son of a daily wage-earning parent, the 23-years old Pravin Jadhav has fought many odds to become a world-class archer. The Indian recurve archer hails from Sarade village in Satara district of Maharashtra which is often drought-affected. Like his father, Pravin was also destined to become a daily wage laborer but his primary school teacher Baban Bhujbal advised him to take up sports and change his fate.

Early days:

Jadhav’s journey began in 2012 when he came to the state government-run Krira Prabodhini as a track and field athlete. After a year in Balewadi, the coaches recommended him to take up archery and since then there has been no looking back.

After starting archery in Balewadi, Jadhav was sent to Prabodhini’s Amravati center where he trained for the next three years. Later, he returned back to Pune and started training under Coach Ranjit Chamle. He was then spotted by Colonel Vikram Dayal who was the compound team coach of the Indian team that participated in Medellin World Cup 2016. He recognized the potential in Pravin and offered him to join the Army. After getting selected in Army, Pravin also got the support from Olympic Gold Quest and Army Sports Institute. He is currently posted at the rank of Hawaldar and is expected a promotion after winning an international medal.

Pravin will be representing the Indian Men team in individual as well as team Recurve events in Tokyo 2020-Olympics.
