County Select XI vs India: In a massive great news for the Indian cricket fans, wicket-keeper batsman Rishabh Pant has recovered from Covid-19 and is likely to join the Virat Kohli-led team on 21 July. After contracting the virus during the 20-day break, he was isolating at a relative’s home. Pant was asymptomatic and his mandatory quarantine period ended on Sunday.
However, Rishabh Pant will not be available for the upcoming three-day India practice match against the County Select XI scheduled on 20 July. Also, India’s assistant training coach Dayanand Garani tested positive for COVID-19 on 14 July after which bowling coach Bharat Arun, wicket-keeper Wriddhiman Saha and Abhimanyu Easwaran were deemed as his close contacts. This means that Saha will also not be available for the warm-up match. Therefore, KL Rahul will don the gloves on Tuesday against the County Select XI.
Pant will be available to participate in the second practice match that is scheduled to be played before the England vs India 1st Test on 4 August.
The IND vs County Select XI practice match will start at 4:30 PM IST on 20 July at the Riverside Ground, Chester-le-Street in Durham. All the senior members of the India Test squad present in England are expected to play this match. In the absence of Shubman Gill who is currently nursing an injury, Mayank Agarwal is expected to open the batting with Rohit Sharma. It will be interesting to see whether fast bowler Mohammed Siraj gets some game time before the important ENG vs IND Test series or not.
