Russel Arnold is a former Sri Lankan cricketer who played all formats for Sri Lanka. He was born on 25th October 1973. The left-handed batter and right-arm spinner is currently working as an international commentator.

Russel Arnold represented Sri Lanka in 44 Tests where he scored 1821 runs at an average of 28 and strike-rate of 44.6. He played 180 ODIs, where he scored 3950 runs averaging 35.3 at a strike-rate of 72.6. Russel Arnold managed to play just a solitary T20I in his career, where he scored 7 runs. Looking at his first-class and List A career, Arnold played 168 and 283 games respectively, scoring 9444 and 7246 runs. Arnold also managed to pick up 11 Test and 40 ODI wickets in his career.
Russel Arnold first played for the Sri Lankan U-19 team and arrived in domestic cricket at the age of 20 in 1993. He made his Test debut against Pakistan on 19th April 1997. In the same year on November 6, he went on to make his ODI debut against South Africa. It was later in 2006 that he made his T20I debut in his only game for Sri Lanka in the format, against England on June 15. Russel Arnold’s international career thus lasted from 1997 to 2007, when he played his last ODI against Australia in April.
Arnold is now a well-known commentator. On December 1, 2016, he was awarded the Dialog Sri Lanka Cricket award for the International Commentator of the year 2015. Arnold has plied his trade as a commentator in several international matches, involving Sri Lanka as well, over the years. He has also been a part of the Indian Premier League and Lanka Premier League as a commentator.
The former Sri Lankan cricketer married his wife Sonali Arnold in 2000. They have two children named Akash Arnold and Saniya Arnold. Reportedly, Sonali is a homemaker. There is not much information available about her on the internet.
