One of the most experienced cricketers in the current group of cricketers representing the New Zealand team, Todd Astle is a leg break bowler. He plays for the Canterbury team in the domestic cricket. Initially he opened the batting for the domestic team, but as his form dipped, he batted in the middle order. Along with the shift in the batting order, he also started to focus on his leg spin bowling. The results were quite impressive, as he picked up 30+ wickets in the 2010 and 2011 season of Plunkett Shield, New Zealand’s Premier first class tournament. These performances catched the attention of the national selectors.

Todd Astle’s first class debut came in 2005, then List A in 2007, and finally played his first T20 match in 2009. He replaced Daniel Vettori in the New Zealand Playing 11 against Sri Lanka in November 2012. Then, Todd made his T20I debut against Pakistan in January 2016. His first appearance in the ODI format was impressive, where he picked up 3 wickets and scored 15 runs against West Indies in December 2017. His best ever figures of 4/13 in the T20 format came in April 2021 against Bangladesh.

Todd Astle started his career with the stint in the U 19 World Cup 2005/06. Then, he opted to play for his home team, Canterbury in the domestic cricket. Till date, he has not participated in any of the T20 tournaments overseas.
