India’s premier fast bowling duo of Jasprit Bumrah and Bhuvneshwar Kumar have been added to the 15-man squad that was named for the remaining three ODIs of the Windies series.
Both Bumrah and Bhuvneshwar were rested for the Test series as well as the first two ODIs in a bid to give opportunities to the bench strength. But, with the fast bowlers failing to create any impact on placid tracks that have greeted sides for the ODI series.
While India nearly failed to defend 322 at Vizag, the fast bowlers especially- Umesh Yadav (1-78) and Khaleel Ahmed were wayward in their line and lengths at Guwahati as well, making Kohli return to their premier duo of Bhuvi and Bhumrah.
Bumrah, who has picked up 72 wickets in 41 ODIs has emerged as the go-to man for Virat Kohli especially in the death overs. The right-hander played a crucial part in India clinching [7 wickets] their seventh Asia Cup title while Bhuvneshwar [six wickets] too played a crucial role after coming from a long layoff due to injury.
Mohammad Shami, who looked the most effective of all the fast bowlers from either side has been excluded from the squad.
In what was turning out to be a dream match for Virat Kohli, Shai Hope (123) and Shimron Hetmeyar (94) produced a masterclass of their own to tear into India’s bowling attack while chasing 322.
The match ended in a thrilling tie and the caravan of the series now moves on to Pune for the 3rd ODI as the Windies aim to upset the mighty Indians.
