AUS Playing 11: Australia will start their campaign against England for retaining the Ashes trophy on 8th Dec in the first test scheduled at the Gabba in Brisbane. The series is part of the 2021-23 test championship and they would be keen to make a good beginning, having narrowly missed out the opportunity to make it to the finals in the first-ever series concluded in 2021. The fact that the Ashes has been one of the most intense rivalries in cricketing history makes it even more important for the home team to put its best foot forward.
Team News
Newly-appointed captain Pat Cummins announced the Playing XI on Sunday. David Warner is set to open with Marcus Harris. Marnus Labuschagne and Steve Smith form the backbone of their batting. Travis Head and Alex Carey have been named in the XI after impressing in the Shield games.
Cameron Green will be the batting all-rounder while Nathan Lyon will handle the spin department. The pace battery will consist of the usual trio of Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood, and under fire Mitchell Starc.
