As it is already known, The Bangladesh Premier League has started from January 21, with few of the top players like Faf Du Plessis, Chris Gayle, and Dwayne Bravo participating in the league. But here’s everything you need to know about the latest controversy surrounding the key Afghanistan player featuring in the tournament.
Mohammad Shahzad Smoking in Bangladesh Premier League
Mohammad Shahzad has always been in controversy regarding his on field performances, and off field comments as well. In BPL 2022, Shahzad is playing for Minister Dhaka and has scored 120 runs in 6 games. The Match 20 between Comilla Victorians and Minister Group Dhaka was abandoned due to rain. But ahead of the scheduled start, Shahzad was spotted smoking cigarette in the ground, while standing with his national team mates FazalHaq Farooqui and Karim Janat. The BCB president Nazmul Hasan spoke on the issue as well.
“It contradicts the code of conduct. Smoking on the ground is strictly prohibited. It’s unacceptable. If he [Shahzad] is not aware of this, the match officials should warn him,” Hasan was quoted as saying by Business Standard.
The onfield umpires along with third umpire have found Shahzad guilty of breaching Article 2.20 and one demerit had been added to his record as well.
Reactions by Cricket Twitter:
If Shah Rukh Khan could be banned for 5 years due to smoking in the gallery, Or Lankan players could be banned for smoking, not even in the stadium. Then surely this rubbish cricketer from Afghanistan (Mohammad Shahzad) should be banned for a lifetime in the BPL! @BCBtigers @ICC pic.twitter.com/R5jGtCutlY

BPL 2022: Can Tamim Iqbal make a comeback into national T20I side?
The top order batsman, who is quite experienced across all the formats of the game had decided to stay away from T20Is for next 6 months. He last featured in T20I game against Zimbabwe in 2020, and has thought to focus on World Test Championship and ODI World Cup in 2023.
The Bangladesh Cricket Board has requested Tamim to reconsider his decision, given his fantastic form in ongoing Bangladesh Premier League 2022, where he is the second highest run scorer with 262 runs in 6 matches. He can surely be part of T20 World Cup 2022 scheduled later this year in Australia.
