Today was the day when the Board of Control for Cricket in India was meant to hold a conference call with the IPL Franchise owners to discuss the future of the tournament. However, recent reliable sources have confirmed that the meeting has been postponed for another date.

It was being said that BCCI officials and the owners were going to have a talk about the already pushed back date of the tournament which was on April 15 and come up with an alternative to that.

The Covid-19 pandemic has put a halt to sporting world. The Indian Premier League had no other option but move away from its intended date of March 29 to April 15. But with the entire country in lock-down, things continue to look bleak for the most watched cricket league in the world.

“I can’t think about the IPL at this point. It is irrelevant along with everything else. The only thing which is relevant is what we are living in and it is a world war three situation where we are fighting to help people,” a BCCI official quoted.

At this very moment, each stakeholder is discussing methods to limit the financial damage through insurance companies and broadcasters.

‘I can’t say anything’: Ganguly gives IPL 2020 Update

“I can’t say anything at the moment. We are at the same place where we were on the day we postponed. Nothing has changed in the last 10 days. So, I don’t have an answer to it. Status quo remains. You can’t plan anything. The FTP is scheduled. It’s there and you can’t change the FTP.

“All around the world, cricket and more so sports have stopped. I haven’t had a discussion with Jay. Let’s see. We will assess the situation, follow directives and see what happens,” Sourav Ganguly said.

IPL to go the same path as the Olympics?

That being said the BCCI also commented about the Tokyo Olympics of 2020 being postponed for next year and hinted that the IPL could go the same route if the situation doesn’t improve in the next few days.

If Olympics can be postponed by a year, IPL is a much smaller entity in this regard. It is becoming increasingly difficult to organise. At this point the government is not even thinking about allowing foreign visas” the BCCI said.
