The cricket festival in the Caribbean has finally come to its final night. The fans were at the receiving end of some high-quality matches along with nail-bitters. The competition between the bat and ball throughout the tournament remained evenly balanced and everyone witnessed some high-quality batting and bowling performances.
The final match of the Caribbean Premier League is currently taking place at Warner Park, Basseterre, St Kitts between Saint Lucia Kings and St Kitts and Nevis Patriots. Opted to bat first, St Lucia Kings opener Andre Fletcher took his team off the flyer as he smashed Sheldon Cottrell for 12 runs in the first over.
Cottrell, if not with bowling, took the revenge by taking a spectacular catch of the Fletcher to send him back in the hut. It was during the last ball of the third over when Fawad Alam bowled a full delivery, the batsman went for the slog sweep across the line, but only managed to send it into the night sky. Cottrell, who was fielding moved a fair bit running back and took it overhead and in the process injured his head, but continued to field on the ground.
Here’s the video:
Saint Lucia Kings mentor Darren Sammy talked about the role of Andre Fletcher and what will it mean to him to win the title with Sant Lucia.
“I just told them… TKR know this position (in the semi-final), You control your mind and don’t lose it. Stay in contention. Fletcher has been going an excellent job, didn’t know he was going to captain. Winning one (title) for Saint Lucia was always up there for me. This will mean a lot to me and for Saint Lucia, especially in the pandemic times. People can take their minds off from the Covid situation and have something to cheer about. This is going to be an exciting game.”
