Due to the rising cases of covid in India, there have been strict guidelines that are laid to organize the tournament in a safe manner. The 1st match will be played between Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bangalore at Chepauk. The 7-day quarantine rule was imposed on the players arriving from different countries or different cities. Few players from different teams have been tested positive and Josh Hazlewood pulled out of the IPL due to the same reasons.
