ENG vs IND: The excitement for the rescheduled fifth Test between England and India is building up. Indian team has begun their preparations for the match and is leaving no stone unturned. They recently finished, playing a four-day warmup game in which they displayed decent performance and players spent a quality time in the middle.
India suffered a major blow on Sunday (26th June) as skipper Rohit Sharma tested positive for Covid-19, which has put his participation in the fifth Test against England under clouds.
Although there’s no official confirmation about his availability for the last Test, the right-hander will likely missthe game. This has raised few problem bars for the visitors. With no vice-captain in the side, there are lot of speculations about who will lead the side if Rohit misses out.
With India already being without the services of KL Rahul at the top, Shubman Gill will be left with no partner if Rohit misses the last game. As a result of which, BCCI has added Mayank Agarwal in the squad as a standby player.
Agarwal, who was dropped from the India’s squad for the last game against England, is expected to be reach UK by today and will be available immediately as there’s no quarantine in England.
This could be a blessing in disguise for Agarwal as this provides him with the golden opportunity to claim his spot back in the Indian team. He last played for India during Sri Lanka series and since then he has struggled to score runs.
Rohit Sharma’s absence will pave way for Mayank Agarwal and Shubman Gill to the open the innings. Cheteshwar Pujara, who was dropped from the side earlier is likely to back. Hanuma Vihari is expected to play ahead of Shreyas Iyer whereas Jasprit Bumrah will captain the side as per various media reports.
Here’s Indian XI for the final Test against England:
Mayank Agarwal, Shubman Gill, Cheteshwar Pujara, Virat Kohli, Hanuma Vihari, Rishabh Pant (WK), Ravindra Jadeja, Shardul Thakur, Mohammad Shami, Mohammed Siraj, Jasprit Bumrah (C)
