ENG vs IND: In a massive breaking news, India have suffered a huge blow ahead of the first Test against England starting from 4 August in Nottingham. Indian opener Mayank Agarwal has been ruled out of the first Test match after being hit on the head during the practice session on Monday.

In its official media advisory, the BCCI stated that Mayank Agarwal was hit on the helmet while batting during India’s nets session at Trent Bridge in Nottingham. After sustaining the injury, the BCCI Medical team assessed the Indian opener and a concussion test was also conducted. The right-hander showed signs of concussion which has subsequently ruled him out of the first England vs India Test match.

“Opening batsman Mayank Agarwal was hit on the helmet while batting during India’s nets session at Trent Bridge in Nottingham on Monday. The BCCI Medical Team assessed him, and a concussion test was conducted. He has shown signs of concussion and is ruled out of the opening Test against England. The 30-year-old is stable and will remain under close medical observation,” the BCCI stated in the press release.

While batting in the nets, Mayank was hit on the head off a bouncer bowled by fast bowler Mohammed Siraj. Incidentally, Washington Sundar also sustained the finger injury, that ruled him out of the entire five-match Test series against England, off a delivery bowled by Siraj during the three-day warm-up match.

After India’s first choice opener Shubman Gill getting ruled out for the complete five-match Test series, Mayank’s injury is a massive blow for the visiting Indian side. Also, the duo of Prithvi Shaw and Suryakumar Yadav who were named as the replacement players, are yet to join the Test team in England. In the present circumstances, one of KL Rahul or Abhimanyu Easwaran is likely to open the batting alongside Rohit Sharma in the first Test against England starting from Wednesday.
