In a massive blow for the visitors, New Zealand regular captain Kane Williamson has tested positive for COVID-19 ahead of the second Test match against England.  New Zealand coach Gary Stead confirmed Williamson’s unavailability and revealed that Hamish Rutherford has been included in the Test squad as the replacement player. Kane will now start his mandatory five-day isolation period. In his absence, senior opening batsman Tom Latham will captain the New Zealand team in the second Test against England starting from Friday.

Already New Zealand all-rounder Colin de Grandhomme has been ruled out of the second Test against England with an injured heel.  It is very much likely that Michael Bracewell will be making Test debut for New Zealand in the second game against England. Henry Nicholls is also expected to return in the New Zealand playing 11 after having missed the opening Test due to Covid-19.
