Former Indian cricketer says “Pakistan are favourites in Asia Cup 2018”

By Christopher Paul

Who and why?

Former Indian batsman, Sanjay Manjrekar like any other fan believes and hopes that team India will win the Asia Cup 2018 trophy but did call Pakistan as the favourites. The reason for that is, Pakistan regularly plays in the United Arab Emirates.

Pakistan faced off against Hong Kong on Sunday and won by 8 wickets. Many have called Pakistan playing in the UAE as them playing on their home ground. Rohit Sharma will be leading team India to face their arch-rivals on Wednesday. This will be after India’s first match of the tournament against Hong Kong.

The Indian Team

Manjrekar said that he thinks Pakistan will be the favourite more than India as they have played in those conditions and in UAE for a while now. Regardless of what the management says, Manjrekar does think the absence of Virat will affect the team.

Manjrekar said that when it comes to favouritism, then it has to be Pakistan because of the place the tournament is being played at. India is a strong contender and everyone knows that.

Manjrekar who proudly represented India in 37 Tests and 74 ODIs said that the wrist spinning duo of Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal has brought balance to team India. He said that India may have struggled overseas in Test matches but looking at their 50-over track record, they are very good in all conditions.

The middle-order

Manjrekar said that Mumbai batsman Shreyas Iyer should get a look-in ahead of the 2019 World Cup. India has been struggling to try to get a grove for their middle-order. Manjrekar also named KL Rahul as a good middle-order option. He also added that India needs to settle it’s middle-order woes before they head into the World Cup or another tour.

Manjrekar said that India needs some in-form reliable batsmen for the middle-order. Every match from now should focus on finding those men and fixing that issue. The other areas have been taken care off already.
