GT Playing 11: Gujarat Titans were touted to have one of the best bowling attacks in the competition before the season and there is no lie in that. In both the games that GT won in this season were more due to their fantastic bowling performances that didn’t allow the opposition batsmen to get going at all. Though they have a weaker batting lineup, their bowling has made sure that the batting issues are masked big time.
Gujarat Titans played with the same XI in both the games. After the last minute withdrawal of Jason Roy, GT are using the explosive southpaw from Australia in Matthew Wade as the opening partner along with Shubman Gill. Though Matthew Wade has had a poor start to his IPL career, they don’t have a better option in the bench.
If Matthew Wade continues to not make an impact, it will open the door for the young Afghanistan wicket keeper batsman Rahmanullah Gurbaz to play in the XI as an opener. Shubman Gill played an excellent knock against DC, controlled the innings beautifully in the middle overs against spinners while other GT batsmen struggled. Hardik Pandya isn’t doing great at #4 and he will be considering to move back to the #6 position where he could act as a finisher.
Varun Aaron bowled just an over in the previous game as he felt discomfort in his leg which prevented him from bowling further overs. It has to be seen whether he has recovered from it, if not, the lanky SLA from Tamil Nadu might finally get to play his first IPL game.
