Australia have achieved history having crowned the winners of the World Test Championship (WTC) 2023 Final as they have registered a sensational 210-run victory over India at the Kennington Oval in London. Without a doubt, it was a complete dominating performance from the Pat Cummins-led team across five days both with the bat and ball which never gave India any real chance at all. For Australia, there were many extraordinary performances from different players like Smith’s remarkable hundred in the first innings that was followed up with a collective bowling performance in both the innings. However, it was Travis Head who came on the top as his aggressive knock of 163 runs in the first innings definitely proved to be the difference between the two sides. Thus, Head was presented the Man of the Match award in the IND vs AUS WTC Final 2023.

After losing the toss and being asked to bat first on a lush green Oval pitch with overcast conditions, Australia batted superbly well on Day 1 of the WTC Final 2023 having scored 327 runs for the loss of just three wickets. The Aussies ended their first innings with a mammoth total of 469 runs where Travis Head and Steve Smith composed a fabulous partnership of 285 runs. On the other hand, India suffered a disappointing batting collapse in the first innings having fallen to 71 for 4 inside 20 overs. The duo of Ajinkya Rahane and Ravindra Jadeja then bailed India a bit out of trouble with a fine stand of 71 runs before the latter was dismissed by Nathan Lyon for a quick-fire knock of 48 runs off 51 balls. Rahane also stitched an excellent century partnership with Shardul Thakur lower down the order to help India finish the follow-on troubles. On his comeback after a gap of as many as 18 months, Rahane contributed with an impressive innings of 89 runs while Thakur too played a brave knock of 51 runs, but India eventually got bowled out for 296 runs and Australia got a big first innings lead of 173 runs.

The pair of Carey and Starc added a brilliant partnership of 93 runs for the seventh wicket.
