Krunal Pandya: It has been an incredible One Day International (ODI) debut for Krunal Pandya. What he has managed to do against England will motivate youngsters all around India to believe and push for their dreams. This is what Dreams Are Made Of.
The pressure of playing the first ODI never got to Krunal Pandya who played a brilliant inning of 58 not out off just 31 balls. He took off right from the first ball and helped India post a challenging 317-5 from 50 overs.
The Mumbai Indians left-arm bowler also had his moments in the field with the ball. One such incident forced captain Virat Kohli into a burst of uncontrollable laughter.
The incident took place in the 28th over when Pandya’s 5th ball was nudged to the sweeper cover by England middle-order batsman Sam Billings.
But Krunal Pandya still appealed to the umpire thinking the ball hit Billings’ pad first. The on-field umpire ignored the appeal completely and Pandya then looked towards Virat Kohli to go for the DRS.
But Kohli saw the funny side and burst into laughter as the ball had clearly hit the bat first.
Krunal Pandya and Prasidh Krishna both were handed their ODI debuts in the first match against England, and you can say, they are here to stay at the top level.
Panday struck a sublime half-century and guided India to a fighting total from a tricky position. Pandya also picked up Sam Curran’s wicket late in the game to cap off an incredible debut.
Prasidh Krishna also shone. The 25-year-old fast bowler, who represents Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL, ended with four wickets for 54 runs with these figures the best for a debutant bowler for India. Quite incredible.
