Virat Kohli IND vs SA: Ahead of the all-important ICC T20 World Cup 2022, Team India is all set to play their final T20I encounter against South Africa at the Holkar Cricket Stadium in Indore on 4 October, 2022. The hosts India have already sealed the three-match T20I series in their favour after having registered an impressive 16-run victory in the second T20I game and also won the opening match of the series quite comprehensively. The Indian contingent for the T20 World Cup will be leaving for Australia just the next day after the third and final T20I against South Africa.
According to some reliant sources, it is understood that Virat Kohli has been released from the India squad and will not be available for selection in the third and final T20I match against South Africa scheduled to start on Tuesday. He played an impressive unbeaten innings of 49 runs off only 28 deliveries during the last game against the Proteas to help India post a mammoth total of 237 for 3 on the scoreboard. Incidentally, Virat has played as many as 10 back-to-back T20I matches since coming back from a break that includes 5 games in Asia Cup 2022, 3 games against Australia and 2 against South Africa. This might be the only reason for resting Kohli in the last T20I encounter against South Africa as there are no injury concerns as of now.
In the absence of Virat Kohli, it will be an important opportunity for Shreyas Iyer to contribute well as he is also part of the reserves in the T20 World Cup 2022.
“He [Kohli] has played back-to-back matches. Will have to be careful about his workload. With the T20 World Cup starting later this month, we want Virat to be fresh mentally and physically. He has featured regularly for India in T20I matches since the Asia Cup and with the series already won, it’s better to give him a breather and someone else can be handed a game ahead of him,” sources in the know of things told Hindustan Times.
