IND vs WI: In a big breaking news, India’s duo of KL Rahul and Axar Patel have been ruled out of the upcoming three-match T20I series against West Indies scheduled to be played at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. The first T20I match between India and West Indies will be played on 16 February while the second and third T20Is will take place on 18 and 20 February respectively. All the three T20I matches will be held at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.
India’s vice-captain KL Rahul suffered an upper left hamstring strain while fielding during the second ODI against West Indies and was subsequently out of the ongoing third ODI as well. Rahul will be needing some more time before attaining complete match fitness. On the other hand, left-arm spinner Axar Patel is yet to recover completely after testing positive for Covid-19 ahead of the start of the ODI series. He has resumed the “final stage of his rehabilitation”.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has named the duo of Ruturaj Gaikwad and Deepak Hooda as the two replacement players.
India T20I Squad
Rohit Sharma (Captain), Ishan Kishan, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, Surya Kumar Yadav, Rishabh Pant (wicket-keeper), Venkatesh Iyer, Deepak Chahar, Shardul Thakur, Ravi Bishnoi, Yuzvendra Chahal, Washington Sundar, Mohammed Siraj, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Avesh Khan, Harshal Patel, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Deepak Hooda.
With KL Rahul unavailable for the entire three-match T20I series, it will be really interesting to see who will open the batting for India alongside skipper Rohit Sharma. The duo of Ruturaj Gaikwad and Ishan Kishan are two prime candidates while former captain Virat Kohli can also be a good option as he played as an opener during the final T20I match against England in 2021.
